The Cardinal T-Square of August 2013:
Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto
War of Gods, War of Thoughts. Summer of Rebirth.
The Cardinal T-Square (the red triangle in the chart below) is the main astrological transit of August 2013, and its keyword is transformation. This Cardinal T-Square will dance, fight and merge with the Water Grand Trine, thus challenging our beliefs and bringing out our weaknesses. The war fought by our inner gods- Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto – will poke at our core, but it will eventually serve to transform and empower us.
While the “feminine” Trine has brought to the forefront our loving and emotional nature and has possibly afforded us with some luck, the “masculine” T-Square will show us our dark side. Some of us may feel its effect only within, but some of us will start “revolutionizing” our lives. The impetus generated by such an important transit can be used as a trampoline to push forward. The flight upward will be scary and sudden for some, but, once the sky is reached, the potency of our purpose will blow full force towards the stars.
WHAT ARE T-SQUARES?
T-Squares take their name from a formation in the sky that sees three planets forming two squares (90 degrees aspects) and one opposition (180 degrees aspect). The energy of the three planets clash against each other and are difficult to reconcile.
The planets involved in this T-Square are Uranus, Pluto and Jupiter (plus Mars). The three sit in the so called “Cardinal” zodiac signs, Aries, Cancer and Capricorn, with Libra being the absent one.
Uranus in Aries is all about individuality, personal freedoms, the need to stand against restrictions imposed by rules of society, governments and institutions. Uranus fundamentally rules revolutions.
Pluto in Capricorn is the destroyer of the old establishment, of patriarchy, of ancient orthodoxies that no longer fit in the contemporary world. It is the 99% rising against the 1%, the bank collapse of 2008, the rise of the minorities. Pluto rules death and transformation.
Jupiter in Cancer is the irrational fulcrum behind it all, for good and for bad. It is a reminder not to be ruled by emotions and wants, but it is also a reminder to honor those same emotional needs. It can show us a road-map where rooting into traditional values (family, for example) can be a blessing as well as a hindrance. Jupiter rules expansiveness.
YOUR PERSONAL BATTLE
Think of the planets (soldiers) in the zodiac (battlefield) as thoughts in your mind. With a T-Square they clash against each other. In order for the “war” to end you will have to purge some thoughts to make new patterns available (to sign the peace).
If Uranus retrograding in Aries is making you feel constricted in your individuality, Pluto in Capricorn may ask you to stand up and fight for your freedom. Easier said than done. Jupiter in Cancer will remind you that your emotional wants alone will not solve your current situation. The fight is harder than you thought.
This is no quick war. Investigate the correct strategy and do not act on impulse alone. Hindrances will be great and no matter how hard you’ll try, your need for freedom will not be easily attained. You will have to “reshape” your mind-set first. Are you really sure you know what you want? Are you strong enough to act based on your beliefs? Can you handle the consequences of the battle?
THE ANCIENT MYTH AND THE INNER WAR
The soldiers involved in the battle are no strangers. They are family members. This is a generational war, one in which fathers and sons (old and new thoughts) fight ruthlessly against each other. In Greek and Roman mythology URANUS is the father of SATURN, who is the father of (the three brothers) NEPTUNE, PLUTO and JUPITER.
In the ancient myth, Uranus is the god of the Sky, Pluto (Hades) the God of the Underworld, and Jupiter (Zeus) the Father of all gods and humankind. Heaven, Hell and Earth are at war. What is your Hell? What is your Heaven? How do they interact in your life (Earth)?
Notice that the Cardinal T-Square is formed by Uranus, Jupiter and Pluto.
The Water Grand Trine instead is formed by Saturn, Jupiter and Neptune.
JUPITER, THE GRAND TRINE AND THE T-SQUARE
JUPITER in Cancer is therefore the protagonist of this war. It is the focus of the summer as it receives energy from both the July Trine and the August T-Square. And its vicinity to Mars accentuates its role. In case you didn’t know, MARS is Jupiter’s son and therefore he is also part of this family tree. Pay attention to what happens in the latter part of July, because Mars will be in closest conjunction to Jupiter, thus accelerating and forcefully moving energy around.
In what point of your natal chart is Jupiter transiting (9-12 degrees Cancer)? What field (house or planetary object) is affected the most by his presence in your natal sky? Focus on that field. Look at it. Dive into it. Use the positivism of Jupiter to find the treasure buried beneath it.
TRANSFORMING CHALLENGES INTO BLESSINGS
Despite his role within the radical T-Square, Jupiter has the support of Saturn and Neptune in the Grand Trine. Jupiter will breath war and peace, assertive action and soothing compassion, fire and water.
The god of all gods (Jupiter) will eventually triumph in the sacredness of that blood connection to the god of the Oceans (Neptune- our artistic, spiritual, intuitive, giving and healing abilities) and the god of Time (Saturn- perseverance and patience). Jupiter will connect light with darkness, dreaminess with resolution, power with freedom.
Let the planets of the T-Square fight and see how all three emerge after battling against each other in your mind. Just observe. None of the three sides will win the war. They will all have to “die” some. The pain born out of that death- letting go of mental beliefs, emotional scars and unconscious patterns that no longer serve you- will be the catalyst for unquestionable and right action. Observe the T-Square with a degree of coldness, and ground in the Grand Trine.
Ground in the belief that no matter what comes your way, or how sad or angry you may feel, a greater good will come. Ground in faith. Stand up and fight (peacefully) for what you believe. Challenge yourself to find who you truly are. Have faith in THAT outcome.
DATES AND DEGREES
The Cardinal T-Square will affect the entire month of August, but a few dates stand out: August 7th – when Jupiter in Cancer will be in exact opposition to Pluto in Capricorn at 9 degrees- and August 21st – when the same Jupiter will Square Uranus in Aries while forming a trine with Chiron in Pisces at 12 degrees. At that point Venus in Libra will also enter the picture, and a so called Grand Cross will form in the sky.
Pay attention to the path of Jupiter in your chart (9-12 degrees Cancer). Also, look at how this Cardinal T-Square affects your Libra placements. Especially the degrees 9–12 (and surrounding) in Libra are the empty receptacles of the T-Square. Keep in mind that in general anything sitting between 9-12 degrees of any signs will feel the T-Square more strongly.
The T-Square will come back full force in 2014. For now, try to win round one of the battle. And don’t worry: you’ll make it :).
